Thank you for viewing the volunteer opportunities available through the Westonka Horticultural Society. It is the volunteer who provides the ground work to build the Westonka Horticultural Society into a viable community organization. We appreciate your consideration to offer your time and talent. Volunteers need not be gardeners, just a passion to help. Many of these positions can be a team effort. If you have a friend you would like to work with or if you wish to be matched with another volunteer for a project, please contact us. Most volunteer positions are short-term with a few long-term commitments.

Volunteer Opportunities Currently Available

Community Events

Represent the Westonka Horticultural Society at community events. Share WHS information at vendor tables, network with other gardeners or business professionals. No formal training required, only a friendly smile! Select one or all. Some of these events (but not limited to) include:
- Spirit of the Lakes in Mound
- Farmer Markets in various locations
- Wayzata Chamber of Commerce Networking representative (various events) 

Garden Gab Sessions - Hosts Coordinate Garden Gab session by helping with attendee registration, coordinate refreshments, and greeting. Six sessions per year -  January, February, March and September, October and November. Topic and presenters are provided through team collaboration.

Marketing Assistant
Assist marketing team with creative thinking in marketing WHS and events. Work with media sources such as TV stations, cable stations, news print and other marketing outlets. Research and creatively design other marketing avenues.

Member Activity Coordinator
Creatively plan member outings to garden centers, private showings, preserves, gardens, etc. Would involve making arrangements with venue and attending the outing. Up to 3 outings per year.
News Letter Assistance - On Going for all Members
Provide stories, articles of interest, submit photos, receipes and other information of interest to members. Work with the editor to deliver a vibrant and informative newsletter. 

Program Development
Assist in development of community outreach programs including scholarships, grants, low-income assistance, nonprofit rejuvination projects and other development programs planned for the next 2-3 years.
Web Developer
Help us develop a new and exciting website for visitor enjoyment, member interaction, and information sourcing. Website powered by Word Press, must know HTML coding.

Westonka Horticulture Day - training and mentoring provided
Approximate time commitment, meeting once per month August through February (except December) three times in March to finalize Horticulture Day plus debrief in April.

  • Resource Fair Cooridinator - engage exhibitors for displaying at Horticulture Day
  • Registration Coordinator - Maintain attendee list, coordinate registration volunteers, ensure smooth registration process for attendees
  • Volunteer Coordinator - Sign up volunteers and prepre assignments
  • Greeters - greet attendees and provide information and directions
